1 in 3 Edmonton public-school students chronically absent from class, data shows

Tens of thousands of students in Edmonton's public and Catholic school divisions are chronically absent each year, a CBC News investigation found. The problem is more severe in the public system, where almost 40,000 students — about one-third of total enrolment — missed at least 10 per cent of school last year, an increase of more than 180 per cent from the 2019-20 academic year.
