Cornwall police service board briefs: More firearms present in the city

Chief of Police Shawna Spowart spoke to the Cornwall Police Service board last week about how firearms were never discharged by officers in 2024. There were, however, 24 incidents where firearms were drawn and pointed at a subject. As reflected in a 2024 use of force report this is a marked increase as police drew their firearms 15 times in 2023, 16 times in 2022, 18 times in 2021, and seven times in 2020.
