Pharmacist retires after 65 years of going the extra mile
McDermott Pharmacy has been a fixture in Valois Village for 65 years. Its owner, pharmacist James “Jim” McDermott opened the drugstore on Sept. 1, 1953, when the area was still called Valois, Quebec, every drugstore had a soda bar and a telephone call to the drugstore’s four-digit number 3376 — from anywhere east of Sources Blvd. — was long distance.
McDermott officially retired Oct. 24.
