Habs plug hole with Alzner, but don't make much of a dent elsewhere

The Canadiens have more questions than answers after the first day of NHL free agency.
General manager Marc Bergevin did plug a hole on defence when he signed free agent Karl Alzner to a five-year deal worth a shade more than $23 million.
But the Canadiens are still short one top-four defender, the spot belonging to Andrei Markov. The Canadiens want to sign the veteran Russian, but have balked at meeting his request for a two-year deal. The good news for Montreal is no other team has stepped up
