Canadiens cut first-round picks Mike McCarron and Nikita Scherbak

The Canadiens haven’t had a lot of success in recent years with their first-round picks at the NHL Draft and that continued on the weekend as the team cut forwards Mike McCarron and Nikita Scherbak.
McCarron was the Canadiens’ first-round pick in 2013 (25th overall) and Scherbak was selected the next year (26th overall). The Canadiens announced Saturday they were sending McCarron down to the AHL’s Laval Rocket, where he will join Scherbak, who was cut after Friday night’s
