About last night … Islanders edge Canadiens 5-4 in OT
First, a history lesson:
On Dec. 31, 1975, the Canadiens played Central Red Army from what was then the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
In what many (myself included: I was sitting up in the nosebleeds of the old Forum) consider the greatest hockey game ever played, the magnificent Canadiens team of the mid-1970s outshot the touring Soviets 38-13.
But Red Army goaltender Vladislav Tretiak was brilliant.
And Ken Dryden wasn’t.
Final score: 3-3.
