OTTAWA —The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops appealed to Prime Minister Mark Carney in an open letter Thursday, asking the Liberals to reconsider their support for amending a bill to remove religious defences from Canada’s hate speech laws. It represents the latest fallout to flow from an amendment to the Liberals’ anti-hate bill, which was set to be discussed on Thursday before a meeting of the parlimentary justice committee was cancelled, with its chair saying MPs need
