Rockhampton flood peak reached

The flood peak in the central Queensland town of Rockhampton is believed to have been reached. Mid this afternoon, water levels reached 8.75m, far below the original prediction of 9.4m. Authorities say they're relieved for the slight reprieve, though hundreds of homes and businesses have still been inundated, and they warn it could take years for the financial impact of the floods to be known. For now, the town is patiently waiting for the floods to go down, which is expected to start happening
