Urban trees cool the world’s cities more than we thought – but we can’t rely on them alone

New research shows that, globally, trees almost halve how much heat is trapped by the urban heat island effect – but it is far from even, with trees often concentrated in wealthier and suburban areas, and scarcer in low-income cities or rapidly growing regions.
