Motor industry asks government to impose tougher emissions rules on its own car makers

It is unusual for an industry to repeatedly ask to be regulated by the government — but that has been the case for car manufacturers for years. Now the motor industry says its latest figures show room for the government to be "ambitious" as it considers imposing a CO2 standard.
